Ganesh Chaturthi marks the birthday of Lord Ganesh, the elephant-faced remover of obstacles. One of Amma's pujaris performs gaja puja, worshipping the elephant as an embodiment of the divine. The elephant was of course, Lakshmi, the Ashram pet.
