At the entrance to the new village of 340 homes that Amma’s Ashram has constructed in Samanthampettai, stands two white, life-sized fishing boats elevated on pillars. It’s an appropriate welcome, as almost all the families who live in the village make their livelihood from fishing. The inscription on this one reads "Built with love for the people of Samanthanpettai by Mata Amritanandamayi Math."
